Auburn Human Rights Commission - Director’s Report
November Meeting 2004
Approve/second September minutes by:  Brandstetter/DeCaro

Members Discuss the following prior to the Fair Housing Public Forum:

·       Monthly intake for October  (43) consisted of questions and/or complaints dealing with housing matters (landlord and tenant), employment, legal needs, banishment from businesses, partner abuse, and general questions concerning issues pertaining to human rights.

·       Monthly Budget:  Members please see monthly activity report attached.

·       Update:  Annual October Human Rights Recognition Awards Program & Reception was well attended.  Guest Speaker, Yolanda Rivera, Director of the Hispanic Community Center, provided greater awareness to the community center and the needs of individuals speaking English as a second language.  In addition, the contracted guaranteed number to the caterer was met and exceeded by 2 guests (62).  Ticket sales, in part, secured a small amount of proceeds for our upcoming Human Rights Scholarship Award 2005.  Each recognition award ticket included a one-dollar donation toward scholarship.  This raised $62 toward our goal.

·       The “holiday appeal” for Human Rights Scholarship donations began in October with printed materials mailed to service organizations and general business contacts.  Requests for donations are earlier than last year in hope of gaining more funds around holiday.  Tickets continue on sale for fund raising and will remain until May 2005.  The Human Rights office has all merchant donations that’ve donated items for fundraising.  Again, we thank Auburn Holiday Inn, Sunset Restaurant, Springside Inn, and Apple Auto Wash for their continued support for our student scholarship.
